Computers. I am interested in most aspects except games. I began with a 'Newbrain' then graduated to a BBC Micro. I became proficient in BBC BASIC and OK with machine code. I then had a Dan 486 PC running Windows 3,1, and now run a dual pentium II SCSI machine with lots of extras and a Terratec sound synthesiser system. You can see what I think of Dan Computers here. I have a particular interest in computer music, time management and web design. About three years ago, I have developed an interest in icon creation and manipulation. 	Cooking This is a recently found interest, I especially look for gourmet recipes with chicken, and even better if you can get some red wine in! Favourite at the moment is 'Chicken Dreams' which begins by marinading chopped dried apricots and sultanas in Burgundy overnight, then gets even better. I also focus on very low fat foods. 	Electronics Interested, but not very good. Mostly building up simple projects from basic components.
	Family History Research (Genealogy) This began as an all absorbing hobby for Barbara and I, but it takes a lot of time which I have not been able to give it in recent years. I am provably back to 1760 with my male line , and have a probable link to 1650. Barbara has kept it up, and now that she has time to spare, we are happy to consider commissions via our Heritage Research business to undertake family history research for others in the Lancashire and Yorkshire areas.
	Fishing Coarse freshwater angling in rivers, lakes, ponds and canals. Mostly in the North West, but occasionally in the Worcester area. There is a useful fishing website with loads of information about angling in the UK and worldwide.
	Gardening We have only a very small garden in our town house, but it gives us flowers, some vegetables and lots of herbs for the kitchen. I have a special interest in soil management, and have put quite a bit of information on this website to help gardeners understand their soil. This soil link takes you to the start of it. There is also a page of soil links that aims to be the worldwide gateway to soil and soil science information.
	Home Improvement I enjoy having a go at most jobs, but would draw the line a taking down a wall or roofing.
	Indexing, Cataloging and Sorting Part of my mission in life is to bring structure and order to my surroundings. Barbara says I should get a life!
	Metalwork Pretty simplistic, but I enjoy fabricating small fittings and projects.
	Music I like listening mostly to popular classics and melody. "Classic Rock" by Sky scores well with me. I also do some basic tune writing, and programming /arranging of the music of others. I can play the keyboard (and one or two other things) by ear, but I play these as I type, ie with only two fingers. My main musical interest is creating midi music files for playing on the computer.
	Photography Quite good at this. I used to develop and print my own monochrome films, but I work mostly in colour these days. If the cost of web storage ever goes down to a sensible level, I might be able to put some decent sized versions of my photographs on line. There is a thumbnail sized photograph gallery on this site. 	Video Home editing, and some business services such as photovideoing hertiage sites , and short promotional clips for websites. home and internet use of video will grow as digital editing kit comes within affordable reach.
	Web Page Design. I enjoy creative designs for world wide web pages. These pages are an example of what I can do.
